In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Teresa Bragg Armentrout and his father in law Sherman Sowder.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Danita Sowder Bragg, his mother Helen, and numerous cousins and friends.
Gary was born on November 14, 1956 in Barberton Ohio. He was a certified welder and went to farrier school in Grapevine, Texas. He worked various jobs throughout his life, retiring as a custodian from Cranberry Elementary School in May of 2019 following 11 years of service.
Gary and Danita met at their 5 year class reunion and marked their 40 year wedding anniversary in August of this year.
Gary used to hunt on a regular basis, then he became addicted to fishing. This was his favorite pastime but once his health declined, he was no longer able to take the boat out. This was a hard adjustment for him but his friend Jay Wooldridge made sure he had one more trip to Moomaw.
The family would like to express thanks Kennie and Bonnie Gilkerson. Kennie had been Gary's friend since second grade and he and Bonnie were of great help during this difficult time.
We also want to thank the wonderful staff at Bower's Hospice House who went out of their way to make this transition easier. We also want to thank the many friends who called, checked on Gary and sat with Danita at the hospice house.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at 1:00 pm with Adam Bragg officiating. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
