Gene Hurd

Gene Hurd, 74, of Maple Fork, passed away December 4, 2015 at Bowers Hospice House surrounded by his family following a long illness. He was the son of the late Arthur Hurd and Lucille Pittman Hurd. He was born November 21, 1941 in Price Hill, West Virginia. He was a disabled coal miner. Gene was a member of Maple Fork Baptist Church. He enjoyed trading guns, hunting, fishing, working on pocket watches and being with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, those preceding him in death are his wife, Arlene Riep Hurd; brother, Ernie Hurd; and sisters, Carol Hurd and Cora Schwartz. Those left to cherish his memory are son, Mike Hurd and wife Candy of Maple Fork; daughter, Cathy Redden and husband Jeff of Maple Fork; sister-in-laws, Judy Hurd of Stevensville, MD, and Pat Riep Dice of Friendsville, MD; grandchildren, Kyle Hurd, Katie Williams and husband Aaron and Hunter Redden. Friends may gather with the family at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 12-1 pm. Services will be held at the funeral home, Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 1 pm with Pastor Jim Bowyer officiating. Burial will follow after at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with family and friends to serve as pallbearers.
