Blue Ridge Funeral Home Beckley, West Virginia Herman Jakob Buhlman Herman Jakob Buhlman, 86, of Mt. Hope, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015. Born September 23, 1929 in Zurich, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Jakob and Theresa Braun Buhlman. Herman served his country in the United States Army where he worked in the Psychological Warfare department. He was fluent in five languages, and spent most of his career working as a translator. He enjoyed music and found beauty in simplicity. Herman was proud of his Swiss heritage, especially its culinary traditions, and he always enjoyed the company of his yorkies. Throughout his life he had an insatiable desire to continue to learn. He was very humble, and he had a profound impact on the lives of everyone he met. Herman was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Those left to cherish his memory include his children David Buhlman of Zurich, Switzerland; Florian Buhlman of Gainesville, FL; Tobias Buhlman of Lee, FL; Dominic Buhlman of Lee, FL; Natalie Buhlman of Lee, FL; and his fiancée Debra Cadle of Mt. Hope. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
