Dr. Marquetta Kay Wriston of Clear Creek gained her heavenly wings on January 31, 2020 following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on January 18, 1951. Kay was the first born daughter of Bettie Schoolcraft Wriston and the late Tracy Buel Wriston of Clear Creek. She is survived by her sisters Denise and brother-in-law Carlos Abrams of Midway and Cindy and brother-in-law Jim Lafferty of Mount Hope; nephews Jacob Abrams of Fairmont, Ethan and Allison Lafferty of Chesapeake, VA; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and her beloved cat "Lilly". Kay was a 1968 graduate of Clear Fork High School, WVIT, Duke University and numerous other institutions. She earned degrees in Business Adm., Health Care Adm., BSN of Nursing and a doctorate in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. She had been employed by several facilities in WV, St. Louis Missouri, Winter Haven, Florida, Winder and Atlanta, GA. Kay had worked numerous years in healthcare. She ultimately found her calling as a nurse giving care to our nations heroes in Atlanta, GA. She was an avid reader, loved to cook, paint and garden. She truly loved and cared for numerous pets and animals during her lifetime. During her last years, she wanted to come home to WV to return to her memories growing up on Buffalo Creek in Raleigh County. We wish to express our sincere thanks to the staff at RGH, Bowers Hospice House, and Rev. Jerry Lawrence. Per her wishes, a committal service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Mausoleum 5, Beckley, WV with Reverend Jerry Lawrence officiating. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to the Raleigh County Animal Shelter in memory of Kay. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.blueridgefuneralhome.com. Blue Ridge Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family. “Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.” -Jamie Anderson
