

Norman Douglas Elswick, 75, of Mt. Hope, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017. He was the son of the late Melvin Elswick and Nora Lee Wagner Elswick. He was born November 22, 1941 in Garten, WV and of the Catholic faith. Norman served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1960 and the U.S. Army from 1961-1970. Mr. Elswick received National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Service Medals, Army Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medals x2. He worked as a Federal Electrical Mine Inspector and retired in 2002. He enjoyed living in the beautiful mountains of WV, ginsenging, bottle-hunting, and generally being in nature. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Pope and brother, Dale Elswick. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Thu T. Elswick of Mt. Hope; children, William Elswick and spouse Michelle of Mt. Hope, Charles Elswick of Mt. Hope, Virginia Hebert and spouse Lester of Pittsburgh, PA and Patricia Elswick of Morgantown; siblings, Roger Elswick of Beckley, Terry Elswick of Mt. Hope, Jerry Elswick of Mt. Hope, Stanley Elswick of Maryland (Brookeville), Marvin Elswick of New Castle, Co, and Penny McMillen of Beckley; grandchildren, Crystal Lee Miller of Mississippi, Kevin Elswick of San Diego, CA, Michael Elswick of Winifrede, WV, Andrea Elswick of Mt. Hope, Ryan Elswick of Mt. Hope, Ethan Elswick of Mt. Hope and Elinore Hebert, arriving in May; great-grandchildren, Avarie Miller of Mississippi. Friends may gather with the family Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home from 10am-12pm. Funeral service will be held 12pm, Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
