It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Shaun M. Ritter, 51, of Danese, WV, He passed away following complications of an extended illness on October 25, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House with his loving mother and sister by his side.
Born August 12, 1973, in Beckley and raised in prosperity, he is the son of Sandra Berry Ritter of Danese, and the late Gary Ritter who passed in February 2024.
Shaun was very funny and fun to be around, he was always joking and making people laugh. To know him, was to love him. He loved and adored his two daughters; they truly meant the world to him. Shaun loved movies, books, vintage collectables, pop vinyl figurines, Universal Monsters, Scooby Doo, and Sponge Bob. He was a kid at heart. Some of his favorite music to listen to was the Beatles, Elvis, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Dave Mustaine (Megadeth). He recently won tickets and was able to attend a Megadeth concert with his sister whom he always called Lil Tay (Tara)...It was one of those “bucket list” items that he never expected to get to experience. He loved watching movies with his nephew, Michael; and one of his favorite movies was “The Big Lebowski"
Shaun worked at Wal-Mart in MacArthur in the Lawn and Garden Department. He was of the Christian Faith.
In addition to his father, Gary, Shaun was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Burns, brother-in-law, Allen Dodson, Grandpa Johnny; Grandma Hilda and several other family members including aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother Sandra Berry Ritter, his lovely daughters, Holly Ritter and Isabelle Ritter both of SC; a sister, Tara “Lil Tay” Adkins and husband, Danny of Shady Spring; three nephews, Dustyn Dodson and Michael Bowyer both of Shady Spring, and Xavier Adkins of Hines; special aunt, Jenny Morris of Layland; special cousins, Cassie Sparks of Mt. Hope, Shannon Smith of Oak Hill; lifelong friends, Terry and Scotty Gunnoe of Prosperity; “special companions” Jewel, Bart, and Apollo; extended family and friends.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service to celebrate Shaun’s life at 12:00 PM Friday, November 1, 2024, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley with Pastor Gary Claypool officiating. Shaun will be laid to rest following the service at Blue Ridge.
Following the service the church will be hosting a dinner to visit with the family at Maplewood Chapel, in Danese. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Maplewood Chapel Church family, Pastor Gary Claypool, CCU Staff at Raleigh General Hospital, Hospice of Southern West Virginia Staff; as well as the many family and friends that showed their compassion and support for both Shaun and his family.

“Let It Be”
And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it Be
For though they may have parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be.
