Shirley Joann Hoops

Joann was born on May 26, 1940, in Excelsior, WV, to the late Tom and Mattie Childress. Joann was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben Hoops; daughters, Vicky Osborne, and Pamela Hoops; and brothers, Roy Childress, Harold Childress, and Tommy Childress.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Les) Davis; son, Roger (Liz) Hoops; son, Steve Hoops; sister, Maxine Yeager, sister, Sharon (German) Ruiz, sister, Lois (Bill) Hookham, sister, Kat (Johnny) Nebel; and brother, Wayne (Judy) Childress.

She had 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, Stacy (Louise) Osborne, Kendal (Trent) Davis, Kamryn Davis, and her great-granddaughter, Adelynn.

Joann was the center of her family. She loved playing cards, cooking, and spending time with her family. She spent her 85 years nurturing the bonds of her family, ensuring that every holiday, birthday, and "just because" days were filled with plenty of food and even more affection. Her bright smile and contagious laugh will live on through every hand of cards played and every family meal shared. She will be deeply missed, but her warmth will never be forgotten.
