

Tommy Lee Purdy Our hero, much loved and respected, Tommy L. Purdy, passed away after a long, valiant struggle with cancer. Tommy was born in Bluefield, WV to Alec and Pearl Purdy. Tommy graduated from Spanishburg High school in 1966 and later served our country in the Viet Nam War, with the military police in Beckley, and Germany with Military Police Investigations. After his service in the U.S. Army, he returned to Beckley with his family and served with the Beckley City Police Department. He attended Beckley College and Bluefield State College with an A.S. and B.S. degree in Criminal Justice. He worked in the photo lab, Arson Investigation, and Crime Scene Search until his retirement in 1998, with the rank of Sergeant. Tommy also worked in Evidence Processing at the State Police lab in South Charleston for four years. He was proceeded in death by his father, Alec; brother, Michael; nephew Greg Purdy, and in-laws, Harold and Delphia Thompson, whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his mother Pearl and Stepfather, Bob Church; his wife of 48 years, Judi; their daughter, Allyson Wilson and her husband Curtis; their son, Tad and his wife Casie; nine grandchildren: Christopher Price, Heather Tanguy and her husband Patrick, Riley Purdy, Drew Purdy and his fiancée Angela Bailey, Britany, Victoria, Howard, Alex, and Connor Wilson; his youngest brother, John and companion Teresa; his niece, Kristie and husband David Mathews, and their two children Neveah and Kayleigh. He is also survived by several brothers- and sisters-in-law, their children, and grandchildren on Judi’s side, whom he considered and loved as his own. Friends may gather with the family on July 12, 2016 from 7 to 9pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. A celebration of his life and accomplishment will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 1:00pm with Pastor Michael King and Rev. Andrew Davis officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Tabor cemetery.
