Milton Joseph Reuwer passed away quietly on October 23, 2021, in Bel Air, Maryland. A man’s man, father of 9, grandfather of dozens, great grandfather of dozens more, Milton was the first child of Milton J. Reuwer, Sr. and Pauline M. Duerr. He was born in 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland and predeceased by his brother and sister. He was married to Kathleen Murray Reuwer for 67 years, until her passing in 2019. He lived much of his life in Bel Air, Maryland. He was a good and faithful man and he practiced “stick-to-it ness” as a virtue.
Milton graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, attended Mount St Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland as part of the US Navy’s V5 program, and was a Navy V12 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in mechanical engineering. He was commissioned as Ensign in the United States Navy Reserves in 1948. He worked most of his life as an engineer in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps rising to the level where he managed the civilian workforce at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland. During the merger of Edgewood Arsenal with Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1971, he reorganized and saved the employment of many hundreds of people. President Jimmy Carter wrote Milton a personal commendation when he retired in 1981.
Milton enjoyed both playing and watching sports and he played softball as a Senior Olympian into his mid-70s. He also relished coaching sports with his children, listening to music on his homemade hi-fi record system, and watching movies and westerns. He particularly loved to float on the ocean in an innertube for the longest time. And he volunteered his time to his community where he worked earnestly for nonprofit causes, including stints as Santa Clause in town parades.
As a lifelong practicing Catholic, Milton belonged to St. Margaret’s Church in Bel Air, Maryland for decades. He possessed a rare uprightness of character. We commend his spirit to Almighty God.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Church in Bel Air, Md. on November 19, 2021 at 10:00 am.
The family will gather at New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore, Md. for the interment of his ashes at 13:55 that same day.
