Born in Parkville, Baltimore County, MD, on July 10, 1953, to Antoinette and Lee O. Akers, she graduated from Parkville High School in 1971.
Pat, as she was known to family and friends, went on to be the first in her family to attend college. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology from Towson University in 1975, she went on to also earn a Masters degree in the same field of study in 1979. Following graduation, she worked in childcare and early childhood development in various positions, including as a speech pathologist for Harford County Public Schools. For several years, she was a dedicated stay-at-home mother. From 2001 to 2015, Pat worked for the State of Maryland as a clinic lead for the WIC program, which provides nutritious foods and referrals to health care for low-income women, infants, and children. Following her retirement, she spent time volunteering, traveling, and enjoying family vacations to the beach.
Family was Pat’s biggest point of pride and a priority throughout her life. In 1976, she married Thomas Richard Wojtek, with whom she had four sons. She is survived by her husband and sons: Christopher (Connie) Wojtek of Greensboro, NC; Timothy Wojtek of Bel Air; Robert Wojtek of Towson; and Andrew Wojtek (Tyler Clarey) of New York, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Peyton Wojtek and Lukas Wojtek; sister, Teresa (Keith) Wolf, brother-in-law, Fr. Robert F. Wojtek, C.Ss.R; and four devoted nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Thomas Akers and James Akers; and parents-in-law: Elizabeth and Richard Wojtek.
In retirement, Pat and Tom rescued a senior beagle as a companion pet, which they doted on lovingly. She also dedicated her time to the Legends of the Fog box office and volunteering with the Aberdeen Lioness Club, an auxiliary to the Aberdeen Lions club that has earned district-wide respect and awards for programs and community service activities. Her favorite club activity was Cinderella’s Closet, an annual event that gives away new and gently used gowns and accessories free of charge to teens attending their school Prom. She was also an avid crafter, specifically working in crochet. In addition to creating countless hand-made baby blankets, hats, and booties for friends and family, she made several donations of handmade goods to local charities.
