The first memory I have of Wally was his infectious smile. He would  run around with a big smile on his face and laugh. Little Wally as I called him was always Happy and he was cute as a button. So I offer my prayers to his family as I understand the deep hurt to lose someone who is so much loved, God bless his soul!


       To say I was shocked, is an understatement! Pam texted me of our cousin Little Wally being called home to be with our Father in heaven late Sat., Jan. 12th. I live on the Eastern Shore, but had visited Baltimore for a few days this week. Had we known,  I'd have stayed so we could have paid our respects.
       Sadly, we'd lost contact  in our adult years. Growing up, what impressed me most about Little Wally, was that he knew every statistic about each player, each team, anything football! He did his best to turn me into a fan. I greatly admired him for this! Fondly, I remember the times I stayed at their home when Uncle Wally & Little Wally owned the t.v. during football season. Now, I think of them both when I watch football. Little Wally & Alan had lots of fun picking on Debbie & I.
       Joe & I, along with our children Christopher & Amanda, tragically lost our oldest son, & big brother Joseph, Jr. at age 18 in April 2004.  We realized that life went on, even with heart pain & grieving. We had to grow & learn to go on for the family that still needed us. 
       I want to express my deepest sympathies to Aunt Margaret, Debbie & Alan. To lose a son & brother is absolutely unbearable: there are no words to ease this pain. Take care of yourselves and each other. Take the time you need to grieve & to remember the blessing of Little Wally. I'm sending many hugs, much love & healing prayers. 
        Leslie, Gregory, Nikki, Brett & Kayla, my sincere condolences, thoughts & prayers are with you. Little Wally, as I knew him, was a special caring, fun, teasing yet warm cousin! What an amazing man he grew up to be! May God comfort all of you & grant you His peace.

     
             

The first time I talked to Coach Wally was when he had asked my daughter to play for the new Bel Air  team he was coaching.  We had just had an unpleasant experience with a previous coach and were reluctant to stay with the Bel Air soccer league. We decided not to join them.  After the season started, he called and asked if we would reconsider as one of the girls had an injury and he was down a player. He was so sincere and convincing that we agreed to give it a try.  Tori’s first game was at St. James Academy. I will never forget how welcoming the team and parents were. Wally and Leslie had created a cohesive team. So, we joined the team and never looked back.
After this incident, I remember talking to Leslie and Wally about his phone call and how difficult it was for him to reach out to us.  I think this showed his willingness to make himself uncomfortable for the sake of the girls. He always had their best interest at heart.
He was a talented coach and taught them the skills necessary to be successful at the game of soccer but he also taught them valuable life lessons as well; work hard, improve yourself, try new things, take chances, play fair and of course, have fun! He was a friend to the girls and to their families. He would ask how you were doing and he waited for an answer and he would notice when something didn’t seem right. He was very sincere and caring.
It showed that he was a dedicated husband and father as he was fiercely protective of his family.
My deepest sympathy goes out to his beloved family; Leslie, Greg, Nikki, Brett and Kayla. I am sure your hearts ache as you grieve your loss but I hope you will find comfort in knowing how his loving legacy touched so many lives due to his life well lived. Rest in Peace Coach Wally.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Wally.  My thoughts and prayers are with Leslie and family.

I remember Wally walking Leslie to Art class holding hands in the halls of Kenwood. Hugs and prayers for you Leslie.  R.I.P Wally.

I will never forget the first time I spoke to Wally on the phone many years ago. He was Coaching a new soccer team (The Bel Air Blaze), and they were the “B” team. He was so excited and infectious with his enthusiasm that I agreed to let my girls play for the team, even though they were already on another team. Through the years Wally gave so much of his time to these kids. From soccer practices, games, tournaments, emails and so much more.  I’ll never forget after a long weekend tournament, we headed to McDonalds drive-thru for a late dinner, and happened to get behind the Klock Family.  We gave our order and proceeded to the window to pay, but Wally had already paid for our order.  He was so dedicated to improving the skills of these young girls, and helping them make their high school teams. He even took his time to go watch the girls as they tried out for their high schools.  Many of his girls made their high school teams and some even continued on to college soccer. He was a big reason for their success and his family should be proud of the dedication he showed for his soccer girls. Not many people can handle young girls, especially as they turned into teenagers, or the annoying parents that come along with these kids. Wally handled it all, and left behind a group of very well rounded soccer players.  Wally will forever live in the hearts of his soccer girls and their families.  Rest In Peace Coach Wally. ❤️

Leslie, Kayla, Brett and Gregory words cannot express the sorrow we feel at the loss of  Wally.  You are all in our prayers.

My brother my superhero!!! No on could of fought this battle with more courage or dignity. Our life's changed as we grew up I moved to Ohio and you stayed in Maryland but no matter the miles I always loved you. Looking back we had a great childhood many wonderful memories that I will always cherish forever. The weekend we spent in west Virginia in October was to be our last trip together and one i will never forget. Brother you have an outstanding family 3 beautiful children to be very proud of and an amazingly wonderful beautiful wife and together we will always keep your memory alive. Wally I have sat here for a couple of days pondering what I should say or what I could do, there no words to describe the empty feeling I had upon hearing of  your  passing. Although you are in a much better place and resting finally without pain, rest easy my friend, may I offer my most sincerest condolences to you Leslie, Gregory, Brett and Kayla  and your family in these difficult days that are ahead.
I am sure Paul Bright and little Joe Walsh were waiting to greet you with open arms, to say that you will be sorely missed is a understatement, you were always that bright shining star from the first time I met you at Deer Ridge Condominiums, you were so young but full of confidence that you could complete the project and that you did, if memory serves me that was probably in 1983 and from then on it was onward and upward your abilities were endless. No matter how tough the project was you always maintained your positive attitude, smiling and  saying don't worry boss we will get it done. Wally  I wish there was something I could have done to make this job a little easier but I am confident that you handled it with your usual smile,  positive attitude and utmost dignity.
To Leslie, Gregory, Brett and Kayla please accept my deepest sympathy my heart goes out to all of you. Your Husband and father was a very special.
Until we meet again Wally, I am proud to say that I was privileged to have had  you as a employee and friend, we will never forget you.

Ever since I was a child The Wizard of Oz has been one of my favorite films. I would always make my parents watch it with me growing up or we would put it on occasionally during the holidays when it was on television and flip back and forth between the film and a football game my Dad had on. It was actually one of the last things I did with him before his passing. My Dad would never openly admit it, but he did tell me from time to time that it was one of his favorite films too. 

At the end of the film, Dorothy, surrounded by her family and friends back in Kansas, tells them of her spectacular journey in Oz, but all the while she wished more than anything that she could be home, ending the film with the famous quote “There’s No Place Like Home”. This was something that always stuck with my Dad. I didn’t always appreciate or understand what home was for a long time but my Dad would tell me that no matter what, at the end of the day family and home is what is the most important, it’s where you’re safe and it’s where you’re surrounded by comfort and an abundance of love.  This is something that I feel describes my Dad perfectly because he cared so much about his family and our home, he always put us first and he constantly reminded us to believe in ourselves, our dreams, and our passions no matter what obstacles are thrown our way. In the film Dorothy’s companions were all lacking something, but my Dad had nothing short of the utmost intelligence, the biggest heart, and the strongest courage that any person who knew him could surely attest that those qualities perfectly summed him up. 

I love my Dad more than words can say and I will miss him more than anything, but I now know the true meaning of home and how important family is, because of him. I also know that he’s looking down on our family with so much love and support and he’ll always be there to guide us and keep us safe no matter what. 

Wally was my first true best friend.  Lucky for me we became instant friends and people would say you wouldn't see one without the other somewhere close. Walt and I both loved playing basketball. His energy was something else. We would play in all types of weather. He would make us play to 50 one on one full court. Playing in the rain in nothing but our shorts cause he used his shirt to cover his shoes so they wouldn't get wet. He loved his Jox high tops. He also liked the fact that he could palm the ball when it was wet, made him feel like one of the big men. He had a little chip on his shoulder because  he wasn't blessed with great height but that didn't stop him from  competing against anyone. It just made him play harder and not back down. Just one of his great characteristics. I truly feel blessed that I got the chance to know Wally and become such great friends like we did.

I’ve started writing this half a dozen times already and each time I’ve found myself stopping and remembering...one of the many funny moments...one of our many serious conversations...one of the numerous proud moments he shared about either Greg, Brett or Kayla...one of his life lessons...or one of the never ending laughs we would have talking about our time spent doing North Harford High School, UMBC or one of the other projects we worked on together.

It is said that the strength of a man is measured by his character, and there is so much that I can say about the character of the man that I’ve been blessed to have as my friend, the man who often called me his “brotha from another motha”...Wally was one of the most humble, dedicated and hardest working guys I’ve ever known, never accepting less than your best while at the same time never expecting more than you could give. His value of family was unmatched and His love for Leslie and his kids was unconditional and unwavering.  His respect and concern for people was genuine and true. Wally always proved himself to be a cut above the rest every day since the day I met him in 2004...My heart is crushed and I will miss my brother dearly.

When Greg first introduced me to his dad, I felt like I'd already met him. The way Greg had talked about him showed that he was someone who made an impression on his kids and on everybody he met, and he didn't wait for his diagnosis to live that way. When I was shy with Greg's family, Mr. Wally was the one who asked me questions to draw me out, and I remember times he made Greg open doors for me and buy me chocolates. When my relationship with my own dad was strained, Mr. Wally told me I was part of his family. It hurts that he will not be here to see the family Greg and I will eventually have, but I have hope that our family will be modeled after the way he and Ms. Leslie loved each other through sickness and health and the way Mr. Wally cherished time with his kids. Thank you for everything Mr. Wally. I pray that you are  resting easy, with no more pain, and we'll see you again someday.

The measure of a man is what you say and do without anyone knowing. Wally was a gentle soul, humble to the core and fiercely loved my cousin Leslie. His family was everything to him. His smile could light up a room and never failed to cause a laugh in not only the best of times but the worst of times. Wally-we promise to continue to surround Leslie, Greg, Brett and Kayla with as much love and laughter as we can give. As Wally would say "That's what families do and at the end of it all... ALL that matters is family". Your spirit will continue to shine on all of us.

I went to school with Wally at Kenwood.  We graduated together and there are so many wonderful memories from those days.  Wally was a great sportsman and just loved Leslie like no other.  My heart is breaking hearing this news.  My thoughts and prayers are with Leslie and the rest of the family.  RIP Wally. 

I'm shattered to hear about Wally's passing. I got to know Wally when I attended Kenwood High School in 1980/81. Wally was on the Varsity soccer team in which I played. It's been many years since I've seen or heard from Wally but some people you meet you never forget. He was an easy going guy at High School and always up for a good laugh. One of the very best people I met in my year in America. Never forgotten here in Australia mate. 

Leslie- I am so saddened to hear of your husband’s passing. My heart hurts for you and your children. 
I remember sitting in the SOES lunchroom with all of you ladies. You were always talking about your Wally with such happiness and love. 
My family is thinking of your family—sending strength, prayers, and love your way. 

A memory of Wally is hanging on the wall in my Reflexology room. - a cross with a purple background.  Purple had a special meaning to him (our secret). Your spirit will stay with me Wally. Love you always. 

I have so many special memories of Wally when I would give him Reflexology treatments. He was so special to me and it meant so much to be able to make him feel better - both physically and emotionally. He loved life and lived it so well. In the middle of adversity, he never ceased to be devoted to his family. And how he loved Leslie!!  “The strife is o’er the battle done” - - -  Rest in Peace Wally. 
We will miss you. 


One of my fondest memories is the last vacation me and my father took together. We went to San Diego and he wanted to show me all his favorite spots, even adventuring to new places he hadn’t been. He loved the sea lions and seeing the smile on his face while watching them I will remember forever. 

While I am saddened to write this I am happy to have known Wally for the past 30 years and can honestly say he was always upbeat with a smile on his face he brought a lot of joy and laughter to the people around him. He will be terribly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Leslie and his family.

The Coster Family was saddened to hear of Wally’s passing.  Coach Wally was passionate about soccer and a dedicated coach to his team.  He brought us all together into one big soccer family. These are memories we will cherish.  Your family is in our prayers.

It saddens me to actually write this... I’m still in disbelief. Wally was a great man willing to teach with patience. He cared about work but also cared about the individual always asking about family and talking about his. I’ve only met Greg but he’s a fantastic example illustration of his father. We all joked about sports and he really let me have it when his Ravens defeated my 49ers in the Super Bowl.
You be missed my friend until we meet again fly high angel! 

Leslie, To this day every time I hear John Mellencamp I can’t help but sing OUR (Cabrini volleyball team) lyrics.  My kids always looked at me like I was crazy:    “A little ditty about Leslie and Wally.  Two American kids growin’up in the heartland. Leslie’s gonna be a Volleyball star, Wally debutante back seat of Leslie’s car.....”💕 My deepest condolences to the Klock  Family. 

Worked with Wally for many years. He some how seemed to know what I was destined for and always told me so. He will forever be loved and respected.
May your family find comfort in these trying times. 

One of the best! I first met Wally in 2005 at Sessa Sheet Metal. Since then, the jokes and laughs never stopped. He was a hard worker and a family man who was always willing to teach me anything he could. You will be missed. Sending thoughts and prayers to your family.

The McDonough family is devastated by the loss of "Mr. Wally."  He was not only an extraordinary soccer coach for Christina but also a wonderful person to our entire family.   He will be missed by so many people.   Please know that our hearts ache for your loss and we  are thinking and praying for all of you.    

Wally has been greatly missed at Sessa Sheet Metal the last couple years and he will continue to be missed.    He was always one of my favorites... always pleasant and always smiling!  Rest easy Wally.  Leslie and your kids are in my prayers.

I met Coach Wally when he coached my daughter Kelsey in soccer.  He taught her so many things not connected to soccer. He always got the best out of all of our girls. He brought us all together as a family!  My thoughts are with Leslie and the family.  ❤️

I remember when I met you both for the first time, and you were pregnant with Gregory. I can still remember thinking how happy you both seemed. I always remember Mr. Wally with a big smile on his face, being friendly to everyone. You’re all in my prayers. He’s still smiling with you 💙. 

Everytime Wally walked in my door he greeted me with " Hey my friend". He was always that man no matter the day. You will be missed my friend.

I remember when I first met Wally and Leslie. They came to my home when Leslie was pregnant with Gregory to interview me as a potential daycare provider. Wally said that my daughter Rachel reminded him of Cindy Lou Who. I was honored to be entrusted with caring for Gregory. Wally was such a kind man, wonderful father and husband. I am so fortunate to have known him. 

Wally was a great man. I had a lot of laughs with 25+ yesrs ago. Taught me many Sheet metal lessons. You will be missed. Leslie God bless you and your family.
