Amanda Shiloh Dawson, age 44, originally of Moberly, Missouri, lost her battle to cancer on the morning of October 30, 2021, surrounded by her closest family. “Mandi” as she was most known by, was born in Moberly on January 5, 1977 to Alice Susan Hickman and John S Hickman.
Mandi will be remembered for numerous reasons. But most of all, for her sense of humor, her quick and often sharp wit, her love for her work and her immense love for her family. Mandi got a degree as a medical assistant began her adult life as a phlebotomist. In 2006, she entered the field of clinical research and accepted a job at Vince and Associates clinical research. She finished her working life at the same company in 2021 when her illness prevented her from working any further. She started at an entry level position and moved her way up and around and finished her career in data management having carried numerous job titles throughout the years. Her coworkers remember her as the one that could light up the room and make a bad day almost always seem less bad.
2006 was also the year she Married Richard Dawson. On July 8, they married in Carthage, and began what would end up being the greatest of marriages. They shared many laughs and good memories. In 2013, they welcomed their only child, Elijah, into the world and he quickly stole their hearts. Mandi was good at a lot of different things in her life, but none as much as being a mother. Many people in her life, including her, would tell you that she never really had the driving desire to have children, but you would never guess that based on how good of a mother she was. She took her role seriously, and was amazing at it. Her relationship with Elijah was full of joy, laughter, board games and TV shows. They could often be found wrapped up under a blanket watching “The Voice” and comparing notes about who they thought would win. Her dedication to motherhood will be severely missed.
Mandi is survived by her mother Alice, husband Richard, son Elijah, two sisters and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father John S Hickman and brother Lee Mathis.
Visitation will be Saturday November 6, at Southhaven Baptist Church from 10:00 to 12:00 pm, and the funeral will immediately follow.
