Carol Berniece Decker, age 76, of Raymore, MO passed away June 5, 2023. She was born to Roy August and Myrtel Fern Knipmeyer Tempel in Higginsville, MO. Carol attended Higginsville High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1968 and her Masters of Science in Education in 1969 at Central Missouri State. Carol was a 5th and 6th grade teacher for Deepwater Missouri Public Schools in 1968-69, 2nd grade teacher for Hannibal Missouri Public Schools in 1969-1973. In 1985, she started working for Kansas City Life Insurance Company (agent licensing, commission accounting, customer service, and billing) retiring in 2011.
Carol loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, and she volunteered to serve whenever she could. She loved hummingbirds. She would sit on the deck near the feeder waiting for them to drink and listen to them chirping. (It was always distressful to her when they would fight each other.)
Carol loved craftwork, sewing, and painting. She made many creative and useful things for the family. She loved reading fiction, and kept records of every book she had ever read. We would spend a lot of time together reading the Bible and watching Christian videos. We also spent many afternoons playing our favorite table game, called “Rummikube”. Carol would watch every newscast she could and read the newspaper. Even so, she rarely commented about issues of the day.
She loved gardening and houseplants. I had tried to get her to install a sprinkler system for years. Then one month before her death, she gave in and had it installed. So sad.
She especially loved Peanut M&M’s, pizza, Mexican and Chinese food, and ice cream custard. However, there were more things she didn’t like than did, and would usually decline to try anything new.
She loved to laugh at herself. After all these years, I was still discovering unique things about her that I loved. I had many pet names for her. I would tell her how special she was, and that she was my “Angel on Loan from God”. She would always respond with “POG”, which stood for “Plain Old Girl”. I am thankful that we had decided to travel in our younger days, because she suffered from degenerative muscle, back and foot conditions.
Preceded in death by her parents and younger brother Dennis Roy Tempel. Survived by son Bruce Blake Morgan Jr; daughter Denise Dawn Morgan; stepdaughter Gina D. Adams and younger sister Joyce Ethelyn Tempel Sexton.
