Dorothy Mae Hudson Shirk was born on November 28, 1926, to Charles and Clara Hudson. On October 14, 1945, she married the love of her life, Ernest Frederick “Pete” Shirk, in Belton, Missouri. Together they built a long, joyful life grounded in love, family, and faith.
Dorothy was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Charles and Clara Hudson; her beloved husband, Pete; her sisters Georgie Mitchell, Mary Alice Lee, Alberta Lee, and Effie Yates; two infant brothers; her daughter Kathy (Jim) Garnett; and her stepdaughter Sarah Alice Cooper. We rejoice in knowing they are reunited in God’s eternal presence.
She leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever hold her close in their hearts: her children Diana (Gaylord) Carrell of Belton, Judy Cassidy of Springfield, Roger (Lori) Shirk of Belton, and Troy (Cinnamon) Shirk of Rogersville, Missouri. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren, with one more blessing on the way.
Dorothy’s faith, kindness, and gentle spirit were a reflection of God’s love, and her legacy lives on through each of those she leaves behind. We take comfort in knowing she has been called home after 98 beautiful years, and that she now rests in the arms of her Savior.
A Graveside service will be held at Noon Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Belton, Cemetery, Belton, Missouri
