He was the second son born to parents Walter A. Lederle and Bettie J. McGinnis, of Mexico, MO on June 4, 1949. He had four siblings; Michael, Lynda, Mark, & Amy. In his youth David was a Boy Scout and played in the Dixie Grey Band at Mexico, MO High School. David married the love of his life in May of 1974, Mary F. Cochran. They had three children; Jeremy, Tiffany, and Alycia.
David and his family settled in Belton, MO in 1988. He loved to work with his hands as a mechanic by trade, but also carved wood as a hobby, and could usually be found in the garage tinkering with something. The family are members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Raymore, MO. He was an avid fisherman who believed the only pole he really needed was a small children’s Snoopy fishing pole he bought for his kids some thirty years ago. After retirement in 2011 he rekindled his love for model trains.
In 2014, David became a grandfather to Jeremy & Angela Lederle’s children; Tony and Christopher, again in 2016 to Rylie Grace. He enjoyed every moment he was able to spend with them; it gave him great joy to welcome a new generation and see his family grow.
David is preceded in death by his father Walter A. Lederle, his older brother Michael A. Lederle, his mother Bettie J. McGinnis-Lederle, and the love of his life; his wife Mary F. Cochran-Lederle.
Beneath the gruff exterior lay the heart of a truly caring man; always willing to lend an ear, a helping hand or give advice when asked. He made an impact on a great many people and will be truly missed. The death of his wife in 1998 affected him greatly, many people have commented in the years since that there has never been a couple more devoted. “One of the most beautiful things about my father (that not many knew) was that he wrote love letters to my mother every day after her passing 18 years ago. Soulmates...that's true love. (Daughter, Alycia)”
