Ruby was born in West Palm Beach, FL on September 19th, 1956, the only daughter of Jeannine Anna (Olchowy), and Karl Heinz Schmidt. Her father was in the US Air Force, so Ruby lived in many places and graduated from Wiesbaden High School in Germany in 1974. While working for the Wiesbaden Hospital as a Librarian, Ruby obtained her Associates of Liberal Arts Degree from the University of Maryland, through a military night school program. Ruby was accepted into the Paris College of Arts school in 1977, however, she returned to the United States and moved to Belton, MO with her family. Ruby got her Bachelor's of Liberal Arts Degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO in 1980. While attending school and for many years after Ruby worked at Lockheed Martin as an office professional.
Ruby was a true girly-girl. She was always dressed up and well-coordinated, and if she couldn't find the perfect outfit or accessory, she would simply make it herself. She loved the color Pink, flamingos, all animals, and crafting. Ruby was a tremendously skilled artist. She could paint, embroider, needlepoint, knit, sew, was a doll maker and even made all of the accessories to go with them. Ruby would also often do DIY projects and remodel her home. There wasn't anything that she couldn't do or accomplish! Ruby was a caregiver to everyone in her life. She was loving, compassionate, creative, tenacious, kind-hearted, and tough as nails.
She was preceded to heaven by her mother, father, and brother, Doug. She is survived by her brother Michael Schmidt, and her nephew Anthony Schmidt, niece in-law Samantha Cress, great-nephews Liam and Everett Schmidt and step-great nephew and niece, Landen and Evalyn Rhodes, all of Belton, MO.
Ruby was a deeply loved daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends.
