Parents: The late Roland and Iris Scott. Roland was from Biddeford, Maine and Iris was born in Anderson, South Carolina, Preceded Violet in Death.
Siblings: Rolanda Scott preceded Violet in Death: Jean Nelson, husband and daughters live in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Husband: Eugene M Klein, Raymore, Missouri
Daughters: Arline and Doug Hayes, Odessa, Missouri; Kristina and Mike Thole of Belleville, Wisconsin. Son Trevor Thole of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Zachary Thole of Belleville, Wisconsin.
Early Years: Violet’s Father was in the Air Force, retired Lieutenant Colonel. Clemson Graduate and until Violet was in Senior High School she lived in France, and from Coast to shining Coast settling in Anderson, South Carolina.
College Days: Violet attended Clemson University where their was 400 ladies and 4,000 men. In her second semester (1965) she met Eugene Klein, from New York. Violet made a great positive impact on Gene’s study practices and grades. They were married in 1966 while both still in school, parents less than happy. Gene graduated in 1967, Bachelor of Fine Arts and went directly into the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Violet stayed in school while Gene went through initial training for six months. Gene was assigned for Fort Benning, GA for six months prior to going to Viet Nam. Violet joined Gene and took classes at Auburn University. They decided to try to have a child prior to Gene’s departure this ended in tragedy when Violet miscarried the day before Gene’s departure. After Violet recovered, she returned to Clemson and graduated in December 1968, with of Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Gene was in Viet Nam. Violet worked to get Gene into graduate school and was successful and after service they started life in Auburn, Alabama (1969). In Auburn they found out Violet was pregnant with a due date of April 1970. Unfortunately, the GI Bill of 1970 was vetoed and they had to leave Auburn to find a job in Atlanta.
Mother Years: In April 1970 Arline was born. They stayed in Atlanta for two years and Violet taught math and science in Jonesboro, Georgia. Gene took a job in Orlando, Florida where their second daughter was born, Kristina. Violet took evening classes in drapery making. She since then has made the drapes for all their homes. In 1974, Gene took a job back in Atlanta with Abbott Laboratories. Violet stayed at home with the girls and sewed and made Afghans. In 1976, Gene was transferred the Chicago, Illinois, Violet was at home with the girls sewing and quilting. In 1978, Gene was transferred to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Violet started working for several dry cleaners doing repairs, quilting, sewing and now both girls were in school. Violet did not love the winters and all the snow. 1979 was the snowiest and coldest winter up to then. In 1980 they were transferred to Dallas, Texas and Violet used the dinning room was a sewing room. Violet also went to University of Texas Dallas and received a Master’s in geology and environmental science. Violet also entered her crafts in the Texas State Fair and won two ribbons. They remained in Dallas for six years when Gene joined SYSCO Foods and was transferred to Kansas City, then Fondulac, Wisconsin and then Houston, TX. When they went to Wisconsin, the oldest daughter graduated from Lee’s Summit High School 1988, and then went to CMSU in Warrensburg and graduated. While in Wisconsin the youngest daughter graduated from Goodrich High School and went to University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and graduated. Both met their husbands in college and married. Youngest daughter, Kristina, has blessed us with two grandsons, the oldest, Trevor, will graduate from college in 2022 and the youngest, Zachary, will graduate from Belleville High School in June 2022. Both are dean’s list scholars plus. Violet has been dedicated to the grandsons from birth. It was during this time in Houston that Violet was diagnosed with MS.
Retirement: In 2006, Gene was medically retired due to Agent Orange Diabetes. Violet became the care giver and processor of VA paperwork. In retirement they moved to Huntley, IL (60 miles northwest of Chicago). Violet became very active in quilting and sewing, joining several clubs. As health was deteriorating for both they moved to Raymore, Missouri to a senior living community. Violet had to stop sewing and quilting as she struggled with MS and failing eye sight. When it was not possible for Gene to care for Violet, she was moved to specialized nursing in the community on November 20, 2019. Violet continued to lose ground and passed into her next journey on October 13, 2021.
Visitation will be 12:30-1:00 pm, Service at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 18 at McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, MO 64012
A Celebration of Life and Refreshments will be at the Klein Home: 1413 Stone Blvd, Raymore, Blvd at 4:30 pm.
