William Allen Dawson

On February, 28, 2026, William (Bill) Allen Dawson, of Belton, MO passed away at the age of 87. Bill was born in Kansas City, MO, on February 26, 1939, to Alamanzor and Elena (Johnson) Dawson of Independence, MO. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1957. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Education degree in 1961, followed by his Master of Education and Specialist degrees in 1963 from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO.

Bill dedicated 30 years to the Belton School District, retiring in 1993 as Athletic Director. During the summers, he worked for the Kansas City Royals. After the Royals won the World Series in 2015, he chose to retire a second time, after 20 years of service with the organization.

When he wasn’t working, Bill loved spending time with his family—especially his grandchildren and great‑grandchildren. He enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his garden and flowers, and took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard.

On August 17, 1963, he married Barbara Jean Youngs. They were blessed with two daughters, Cindy and Becky.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Dawson; his daughters, Cindy Dawson Willey (Pat) and Becky Dawson Fields (Adam); and his sister, Roberta Dawson Blount.

His grandchildren:

· Children of Cindy and Pat Willey: Chris Bailey, Nick Willey, Ciera Willey Bailey (Kyle)

· Children of Becky and Adam Fields: Kristen Fields Bremer (Elijah), Travis Fields (Samantha)

His great‑grandchildren:

· Children of Ciera and Kyle Bailey: Delilah

· Children of Travis and Samantha Fields: Ramona, Rhiannon

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alamanzor and Elena Dawson; his brother, Pvt. James Berkley Dawson; his brother-in-law, Don Blount; and his in‑laws, Marvin and Marjorie Butler Youngs.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Belton School District Athletic Department or the Belton-Mt. Pleasant Emergency Welfare Association.
