

David Alton Smith, 90, of Dunnellon, FL, passed away on Tues., Feb. 10, 2026, at E.W. and Lucille Cates Hospice House in Ocala, FL. A native of Akron, OH, David was born Feb. 25, 1935, to John and Bessie (Ensminger) Smith, one of two children. David served his country honorably and proudly as a United States Marine from 1954 to 1957 and enjoyed a long career with U.S. Steel as a Superintendent of Operations. Mr. Smith moved to Dunnellon 30 years ago and was a Free and Accepted Mason; a member of the Knights Templar, and a member of the On the Level Club, doing good for others. He loved golfing, watching football, going out to dinner with friends and family. Perfect day would include a round of golf with friends in beautiful weather, watching a football game, petting his cat, going to dinner with his friends, and most of all spending time with his beloved wife of 67 years, Arlin Kazella Smith, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, David is also preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Smith. He is survived by his sons Michael Smith (wife Ellen Smith nee Pitts), Grafton, OH and Christopher Smith (wife Michelle Smith nee Alafita), Fort Wayne, IN and grandchildren Riley, Noah and Ian Smith, all of Fort Wayne, IN. Friends will be received on Thurs., Feb. 19, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at Fero Funeral Home, 5955 North Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, Florida, where a Celebration of Life will commence at 1:00 P.M. Military Honors rendered by the United States Marine Corps and the Citrus County All Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Fero Memorial Gardens.
