

Frank, born in Quincy, Massachusetts, was the son of Urban and Theresa Hughes. He spent the early years of his childhood in Randolph before his family moved to Brockton in the 1940s. After graduating from Brockton High School in 1950, he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the USS Yorktown during the Korean War. He went on to graduate from Dunwoody College of Technology and attended Bridgewater State University.
Frank returned to Massachusetts to work in the family business, Hughes Lunch, in Brockton. Soon after, he met Eleanor Gelenian of Malden, and they were married in June 1957. Frank and Eleanor recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Taking over the family business in 1965 upon the death of his father, Frank ran a successful canteen and catering business, Hughes Canteen, for many years in Brockton. He sold the business and worked for the City of Brockton as a Veteran Services Investigator until his retirement in 1989. He also was a Constable for the City of Brockton for many years and a member of the Board of Directors of the Brockton Lions Club.
In 1997, Frank and Eleanor began “snowbirding” in Florida and then permanently moved to Beverly Hills in 2002. Frank was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his many golfing buddies most recently at Brentwood Golf Course in Beverly Hills. Frank also enjoyed spending time with his family and travelled often to visit his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife Eleanor Hughes; his children: Brian Hughes of Greenland, New Hampshire, Eleanor Hughes of Los Angeles, California and Francis Hughes Jr. and his wife Julia of Mashpee, Massachusetts; his grandchildren: Michael Hughes and his wife Jennifer of Ayer, Massachusetts, Kathryn Cifuni and her husband Eric of Taunton, Massachusetts and Stephen Hughes of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Jamie Hughes and Piper Hughes both of Mashpee, Massachusetts and Katerina King of Jacksonville, Florida; and his four great-grandchildren Madeline, Chase, Troy and Henry.
Frank is also survived by his three sisters: Theresa Buckley of Clearwater, Florida, Joan McCormick of Orleans, Massachusetts and Mary Ann Waygan and her husband John of East Falmouth, Massachusetts. As well as Eleanor’s sister, Louise Arthur and her husband George “Buddy” Arthur of Malden, Massachusetts. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Florida family and friends will be received on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM with a celebration of his life to follow at 11:30 AM at Fero Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be made and announced by the family with final resting at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
