

Harold “Hal” Franklin Butler, 80, of Pine Ridge Estates, Beverly Hills, FL, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021. He was born in Derby, CT on January 19, 1941 to Frances Marion (nee Meek) and Harold Franklin Butler, Sr. Hal joined the United States Air Force at age 17 and was honorably discharged after six years, August 1964 serving as HQ Air Weather Sr., primarily on Guam.
Hal continued the college education that he began in the Air Force and became a history teacher in September 1966. Although offered many positions, he chose to teach at Central High in Bridgeport, CT, the same school that he attended in high school.
A lifelong learner and Dana scholar, Hal earned 9 credits more than a Master’s degree at the University of Bridgeport. Upon their retirement in 1994, he and his wife moved to Florida. Hal enjoyed hobbies of sailing, being a member of the United States Power Squadron-Lake Candlewood, Brookfield, CT, golf, tennis, canoeing and gardening. Everyone recognized him as both a Shakespearean and a historical scholar. He was loving, kind, responsible, reliable and an extraordinary man. He passionately cared for others, and served as a guardian ad litem, volunteered with food pantries and supported local charities. He loved animals and supported animal rights. He provided a loving home to many dog and cat rescues during his life.
Hal is deeply missed by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn, his daughter, Charrington Morell and son, Christopher Nicholl and his wife, Susan. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, James T. Miller, Jr., Alyssa Evagash, Benjamin Nicholl, Alex Carlson, III, Matthew Nicholl, Kathryn Nicholl and Graham Buchholtz. His family takes solace knowing he enjoyed his life, was deeply loved and made a difference in the lives of many. Per his wishes, no funeral will be held.
