James P. Charters, 90, of Lecanto, FL, passed away on Thurs., Aug. 29, 2013 at HPH Hospice, New Port Richey. A native of Newark, NJ, he was born Aug. 7, 1923 to James and Mary (Garthwaite) Charters, one of four children. Mr. Charters moved here in 1992 from New Jersey and was a retired heating oil salesman for Raritan Oil of Edison, NJ. He was a former semi-pro baseball player; loved softball and bowling, and was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie School. James was a WWII US Army Air Corps veteran and was of the Roman Catholic faith. He is survived by his children Lisa Mayrose (husband Scott), Land O’ Lakes and Debra Smith (husband John), Spring Hill; daughter-in-law Frances Charters, Salinas, CA; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Charters was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Charters and siblings Walter Charters and Dorothy Sberna. A memorial service of remembrance will be held on Sat., Sept. 7th at 1:00 P.M. at Fero Funeral Home, Beverly Hills, FL with Fr. Gregory Andrews officiating. Interment private.
