María graduated from the School of Industrial Arts and worked as a commercial artist. After earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the City University of New York, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to become a New York City school teacher. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Lecanto, The New York Club, and The American Association of University Women.
María was predeceased by her husband, John, of 57 years. Survivors include sons Johann (Elisabeth) of Germany, and Gerard of Sylva, NC; daughter Beverly of York, SC; and grandchildren Clarisse (Manu), Yannic, Isabel, Johanna, and Gabrielle.
A Requiem Eucharist is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23rd, at 10am, at Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, Lecanto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or Hospice of Citrus County.
