He is also survived by many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Roy Thibodeau is pre-deceased by his parents, Arthur and Blanche Thibodeau, his wife Germaine Alice (Shepard) Thibodeau, his daughter Irene Thibodeau and son Matthew Thibodeau, as well as siblings Arthur Jr, Richard, June, Paul, Bernard, Anne & Eugene.
Born on February 25, 1936, in Wilder, Vermont, Roy was a devoted provider for his large family, and an altruist who was always ready to help a friend in need. He would often get calls in the middle of the night from friends in crisis, and would always drive whatever the distance to assist those he cared for in any way that he could.
Roy was a member of the Armed Forces, enlisting in the New Hampshire Army National Guard, Co. K, 195th Infantry Regiment on 1 March 1954. He also maintained a diversity of employments to maintain the family, from working in the Athletic Department at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, to being a Security Guard and CO after moving his family to Connecticut in the late 1960's. Roy was also a Volunteer Firefighter in Old Lyme, Connecticut for several years.
Roy was an avid sports fan, especially for college football. He enjoyed watching games on the television when he wasn't engaged in other family activities. He was always ready to fire up the brick BBQ grill he'd hand built when he'd moved his family to Montville, Connecticut. Many a weekend was spent with friends and family, both local and out of state, enjoying everything from steaks to steamed clams, and everything in between.
Roy was a kind but firm father, a loving husband, and a truly devoted friend to many. While his wife, Germaine, was the mortar that held the family structure together, Roy was the brick and stone that kept the foundation of our family strong. Together they built a family legacy that still stands today.
Words could never convey the sense of loss that we, his family, feel so deep in our hearts. However, as a family, we will carry the Thibodeau torch onward, fueled by the countless memories we can all cherish and keep alive together.
Rest well in the arms of Jesus, Dad, and give our love to Mom, Irene, Matt, and all the others we have lost over the years. We shall all be together again one day. We love you!
A committal service will be held at Florida National Cemetery, located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL, 33513, on October 3, 2025, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
