Albert LeWayne Woodard, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Hoover, Alabama on Friday, August 8, 2024. He was born to Rev. John Rowe Woodard and Bessie Matson Woodard in 1939, and from a young age showed a passion for music and an entrepreneur spirit. By the age of 14, he ran a successful paper route and shoeshine stand, while also playing in a band with his brother Jerry, which took home 1st Place in a Nevada area talent contest. When he moved to Talladega, AL as a teenager, he developed a strong interest in automobiles and motorcycles. He spent over twenty years in the car business as an auto broker, and in his free time he loved playing local night clubs with his band, writing songs, composing music, and collecting classic cars. However, this love paled in comparison to the love he had for his wife of 62 years, Gloria C. Woodard. After retiring, the two spent their time traveling and playing host to countless family events and holiday gatherings. He cherished this family time and was their go-to for sound advice and occasional off-color humor. His presence will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife Gloria C. Woodard, two daughters Diana Strickland and Dena Hendrix, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, brother, Dr. Roger Rowe Woodard, and sister Sheree Graham.
Funeral services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 800 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211, on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Birmingham Humane Society.
