Amy Staats Howard, age 60, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on March 4th, 2025. Born on November 3rd, 1964, in Birmingham, Amy was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, and friend, whose warmth, intelligence and passion touched the lives of many.
Amy graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Psychology, and later earned her Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law in 1995. Her professional career began at the IRS as a Revenue Agent from 1987 to 1994. In 1997, she joined Amsouth Bank and then Regions Bank in the trust department, rising to Senior Vice President and Trust Adviser, demonstrating her commitment and expertise. She valued community involvement, serving on the boards of the YWCA and her children’s school PTAs.
Amy was a passionate lover of life, with a particular fondness for dogs, travel, and music. She cherished her family vacations to Disney World, creating magical memories that will be forever treasured and instilling a passion for imagination in her children. Amy's love for Disney extended beyond the parks, evident in her cherished collection of Mickey Ears and snow globes, each holding a special memory. A lifelong patron of the arts, Amy held a special place in her heart for musical theater, and was especially captivated by the grandeur of Phantom of the Opera.
She found immense joy in tending to the animals on her family farm, a testament to her gentle and caring spirit. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and she found joy in sharing these passions with those around her. Amy's deeply held Christian faith was a constant source of strength, shaping her compassionate spirit, humble demeanor, and heartfelt concern for the needs of others. Above all, she was a devoted mother to Shelby and Jackson Howard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carole Staats and Dr. O. James Staats. Amy is survived by her daughter, Shelby Howard; her son, Jackson Howard; her sister, Jennifer Moore (Denny); her nephew, Austin Moore; her niece, Ansley Moore; her former husband David Howard; and her dogs, Violet and Alice.
A funeral service to celebrate Amy’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 18th.
