

Barney Lee Perkins Jr. age 97, of Dalton, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Barney was born January 4, 1925. Barney was an incredible man not only in actions, but with words. He lived his life as some of his sayings go " Keep your nose clean if not by one sleeve, then two". Barney answered the call of God in more ways than one. He answered God's call in serving his country during World War 2 (Pearl Harbor) as a Radio Operator. God then called on him to protect his friends and family as a Fire Fighter for the City of Birmingham where, as he said it " He worked for 37 year and 11 months".
God also called upon Barney to have a family where he kept to God's plan and provided as a husband and father should. Barney was blessed with the gift to create beautiful music and played mainly the guitar. He would play with his family who was also gifted by God. He was a Deacon at Lakeside Baptist Church, and was a Traveling Man who attended and was a member of West End Masonic Lodge.He was also a Shriner at Zamora Temple and was a member for Lakeside Strings, Carpenters For Christ, Community Strings, and Wilson Hill Band.
Barney is preceded in death by his father Barney Lee Perkins Sr. and his mother Jewel Gray Perkins Hayes. He is also preceded in death by: his first wife Mildred Perkins(1982), second wife Jackie Perkins, brother Jack Perkins, sister Peggy Perkins, and one of his sons Butch Perkins(1970).
He is survived by his son Ronny Perkins, Granddaughter Rachel Perkins Gleeson, brothers: Dick Perkins, Preston Perkins, Earl Perkins, Ted Perkins, David Perkins, sister Betha Perkins Pingel and many much loved nieces and nephews.

There will be a Graveside Service at 9:30AM on Friday, July 15,2022 in Elmwood Cemetery located at 600 Martin Luther King Blvd Birmingham, Alabama 35211 The staff of Elmwood Chapel does ask people attending to please arrive at least 30 minutes early for the service, and meet in front of Elmwood to travel in procession to the site of internment. Elmwood Chapel is located at 800 Dennison Ave SW Birmingham, Alabama 35211
