Berth Nixon was born on September 17th 1931 in Vossa, Mississippi to the late George and Clara Nixon (Trotter). Bertha moved to Alabama at the age of 11 in 1942. Early Monday morning of June 10th 2024, Bertha's pain free, earthly body transitioned to its final resting place in Glory at the age of a blessed 92.
Bertha received and confessed Christ majority of her adult life. She performed missionary work for her neighbors and church family for a number of years. This work consisted of performing household chores and constant prayer for these individuals. Bertha was truly a praying woman. She believed that this work was a reflection of the will of God and that she will be blessed for the work she performed in the name of Jesus.
For a short few years, Bertha worked at a cafe downtown Birmingham in the early 1950's. Bertha was a faithful church goer. She enjoyed Gospel music and would play it loud enough for the neighbors to hear, hoping they would be saved as well. Her favorite Gospel artists were Shirley Cesar, The Mighty Clouds of Joy and Willie Neil Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes.
Bertha is preceded in death by her parents as previously stated above. Her two beloved daughters Wilma Jean Riddle (Gales) and Willie Jean Crenshaw-Brown (Darryl). She is also preceded in death by her Son Willie C. Nixon. Her granddaughters Rasheeda Nixon, Stephanie Jean Riddle and her great grandson Terrence Kidd. Bertha is the final soul to be called home of her 14 siblings.
Bertha leaves to cherish her everlasting memories, three daughters. Mary Mathis who was blessed to perform the caregiver role up until her demise. Lindia Brown (Edmund) of Alabama and Clara Cottingham of Georgia. Three sons, Peter Nixon of Georgia, George and Charles Nixon of Alabama.
Bertha was graced to witness five generations. Within that, she leaves to mourn her memory 28 grandchildren. A multitude of great-grandchildren as well as a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and non-relatives that adored her as well.
Bertha may very well be absent from the body and present with the lord, but without a doubt her memories will be cherished forever.
A special thank you is directed toward Michael Nixon for the undying love and support he has provided over the years. In many ways, you were more of a son than a nephew to your Aunt Honey B and the family's gratitude is extended to you for that. We love you!
