Betty C. Hand, 94, went home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Wooten (Tommy), Jenny Boroughs (Robert), and Babs Matthews (Randy); grandchildren, David Johnson, Matt Johnson (Chase), and Chad Davis (Jamie); 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends whom she loved as if they were her own family.
Betty was always happiest serving her Lord and Savior, Who gave her the call to feed the masses both physically and spiritually. She served at many churches in the Birmingham area over the years as the Food Service Manager. The last church she served in this capacity was at Lakeside Baptist Church. Another great joy in her life was being called on to pray with and for others. She was the consummate prayer warrior.
Betty was a lover of her church, gardening, the Hallmark channel, butterflies, red birds, Hobby Lobby, watching church sermons from as far back as 30 years ago, Bit-O-Honey, colorful sweaters, congealed salad, candy bowls, and letting small children (and adults) eat their fill of candy and washing it down with sweet tea or Grapico. Betty was the life of the party. She wanted everyone to have a good time. She was and always will be loved by all that knew her. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held at Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1pm until 2pm in the Celebration Chapel. A Celebration of Betty’s life will follow at 2pm in the chapel. She will be laid to rest at Birmingham’s historic Elmwood Cemetery after the service.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
