

Betty Jo Taylor Nash of Trussville, AL., died on January 20, 2017. Born on August 23, 1930, she was the daughter of Joseph Kermit Taylor and Julia Wyatt Taylor. Betty Jo attended Gibson Elementary School and Woodlawn High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Euclidean Honor Society and was selected as the head majorette. After high school, Betty Jo attended Birmingham Southern College where she proudly served as president of Alpha Omicron Pi, was a Phi Beta Kappa honor student, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1952. While attending Birmingham Southern she met her husband of 62 years James Edward Nash, Jr. Betty Jo and Jim were married October 16, 1954 at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church. Betty Jo and Jim made their home in Birmingham and were the proud parents of three daughters. Betty Jo later received her M. A. and A. A. degrees from the University of Montevallo and was a much beloved teacher at Leeds and Erwin High Schools.
Betty Jo and Jim were long-time members of Huffman United Methodist Church, where Betty often taught in the Loyalty Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women’s Circle. Betty also served on the board of directors of the Shepherd Center East, the Chalkville Girl’s School and was the first nationally certified gymnastics judge from the state of Alabama.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Taylor. She is survived by her husband Jim; her three daughters Jill Borders (Jim) of Trussville; Amy Pigg (Mike) of Auburn and Gail Osborne (David) of Trussville; eleven grandchildren, Julie Borders, Laurie Borders Lowery, Melissa Pigg Hunter, Emily Borders, Sarah Pigg, Taylor Borders, Haley Borders, Natalie Pigg Welesko, Amy Borders, Nash Osborne, and Abby Osborne; three great-grandchildren, Emmie Borders, Charlie Hunter, and Wyatt Lowery.
Betty Jo would be pleased if in lieu of flowers you would honor her with your gifts to the Huffman United Methodist Women or a library in your local community.
A family graveside service will take place on Monday, January 23rd at Elmwood Cemetery followed by a memorial service and visitation at 11:30 AM at Huffman United Methodist Church.
