Chalmer William "Bill" Hurd, affectionately known to his coworkers at ACIPCO as Mop, passed away on May 20, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hootie and Latena Hurd; wife, Joyce Hamer Hurd; and son, Larry C. Hurd. He is survived by his son, Lance Hurd; "adopted" son, Lee Gregory; and sister, Chris Knox.
Bill graduated from John Carroll High School in 1950 and immediately joined the United States Marine Corps. Upon his discharge from the service, he returned home to Birmingham and married his sweetheart, Joyce in 1952. Bill worked for ACIPCO for 40 years at the Number 1 Machine Shop until his retirement. He was a member of the Shades Mountain Independent Church and was a Prime Timer and elder for 10 years. Bill loved bird watching, baseball, and Auburn football.
The family will host a visitation on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10am at Elmwood Chapel; with services following at 11am. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
