

Charles E. Hardin, 89, of Homewood, Alabama went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 4th. He was a graduate of Ensley High School Class of 1946 and proudly served his Country as a Sergeant in the US Army stationed in Germany from 1945-1949. He returned home to Graduate from Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration in 1952. Ed was Past President of the Homewood Lions Club as well as Homewood Little League Baseball for many years.
He was highly active with City Council and was instrumental in the City of Homewood’s development in the 1960’s, 70’s and early 80’s. He had a highly-decorated 35-year career in sales with the majority of his tenure spent with Kohler Plumbing Products as the Atlanta Zone Manager prior to retiring in 1988. Anyone who knew “Big Ed” was so much better for it as he brought joy to everyone he encountered – He will be missed! He was predeceased by his Wife of 47 years , Betty Jean Evans Hardin; Parents, Charles Henry & Dora Mae Mitchell Hardin; Sisters, Helen June Simmons & Mildred Aileen Hardin. He is survived by his Sister, Phyllis Hardin; Daughter, Martha Hardin; Sons, Gary Hardin (Donna), Alan Hardin (Leigh) and Paul Hardin; 2 Grand-Daughters and 4 Great-Grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel – 800 Dennison Avenue SW – Birmingham, AL 35211.Graveside Service will be Thursday, June 8th at 1:00pm at the same location.
