Chris S. Vick, age 93, passed away on July 25, 2014 as peacefully as she lived her life. She is survived by her son Dr. Alan Lee Ferguson and his wife Elizabeth of Vestavia Hills, Ala, daughter Lynn Ferguson of Augusta, Ga., grandchildren Alan Ferguson, Dalton Marshall (John) and Lauren Ferguson, two sisters Carol Jean McLaughlin and Susie Morris Rogers, and many nieces and nephews. She was married to Richard E. Vick later in life and stepchildren Myra Whitson (Jim) and Chris E. Vick became part of her extended family as well as grandchildren Jay Hardy, Mathew and Jennifer Whitson. Chris was born Eula Christine Sawyer on June 18, 1921 in Powderly, AL, but became “Chris” when the opportunity arose. She graduated from Jones Valley High School and worked at Progressive Farmer magazine as well as Canterbury United Methodist Church. She had two other residential venues in her life, those being Homewood and Vestavia Hills, Ala., where she lived independently until two years ago. She was a member of Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church. Chris grew up in a small house with eight sisters and one brother. Her family values were nurtured by the use of two pieces of furniture in their home, a dining table seating twelve and a grand piano. When asked why they had such a large table in such a small home, the answer was, “To enable everyone to sit down at dinner.” Musical pursuits were encouraged as this had been a part of the family for a long time. Chris had many characteristics to be admired: she was loving, caring, and above all, tolerant. All her family loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed. Chris moves on to the life hereafter having left this world a better place. Visitation will take place at Rideout’s-Brown Elmwood Chapel on Tuesday, July 29, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM and a graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oasis Healthcare, 2005 Agape Circle, Moody, AL 35004.
