He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1981. Shortly after, he began his career at A-1 Products in 1982, where he worked until 2019, before continuing his career with Super Bowl, where he was currently employed.
A lifelong bowler, Ken was deeply dedicated to the sport and the bowling community. He served many years as Secretary of the Greater Birmingham Bowling Association and was inducted into the Greater Birmingham Bowling Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service in 2006. Ken was also an avid fan of Alabama football and could always be found cheering on the Crimson Tide every Saturday in the fall.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, David Atwater, Sr. and Diane Atwater. He is survived by his sister, Laurie Kerklin, and his brother, Marty Atwater. Ken was a beloved uncle to Rebecca Bryant(Tim), Melanie Keener(Jonathan), Katie Keener(Nick), and Amanda Lolies(Kenny), as well as to David Hopkins, who he also cherished as a nephew. He was a great uncle to Josh Bryant, Cade Bryant, and Everett Polzin. Ken is fondly remembered by his uncle, Charles Atwater (Jan), and his cousins, Julie Seals (Mike) and Alex Atwater (Kristy), all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Ken will be remembered for his easygoing spirit, his love of bowling, and the kindness he shared with everyone who knew him. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the many ways he touched their lives.
We invite friends and family to join us as we celebrate Ken's life at Vestavia Bowl. In his honor, we'll also be watching the Alabama game together, which was one of his favorite traditions. Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11am.
Come share your stories, laughter, and love for Ken.
