David Wayne Head, age 84, of Pinson, Alabama, passed away on July 8, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie David Head and Gussie Aileen Minter Head. He is survived by: his wife, Laura Rebecca Ratchford Head; five children, David Wayne Head, Jr. (Tonya), James Head (Leta), Alan Head (Missy), Beth Tomlinson (Kevin), and Christa Campbell (David); his brother, John Head (Flo); seventeen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Alabama. His career centered around vocational rehabilitation services; he was a faculty member in the College of Education at Auburn University and The University of Alabama, from which he retired in 1998.
David loved spending time with his family and pets. He enjoyed music, singing, traveling, grilling, watching college football and spending time at the lake.
The Celebration of Life will be July 20, 2024, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4809 Bell Hill Road, Bessemer, AL 35022. Visitation is at 1:00 p.m. followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
