DeWitt A. Hare, affectionately known as "Sonny," 77, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 in Greenwood, South Carolina. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 11, 1946, he was the cherished son of DeWitt and Helen Hare.
Sonny pursued an education in Finance at The University of Montevallo, before embarking on a distinguished career in the oil industry. After many successful years, he returned to his hometown of Montevallo, Alabama, driven by a profound desire to serve his community. He joined the local emergency services as a paramedic, where he remained a loyal supporter after surviving a severe accident while on call.
Following in his family's footsteps, Sonny also upheld a long-standing tradition as the proprietor of the region’s premier Airstream travel trailer parts and supplies dealership. Under The Hare’s stewardship, the business flourished for 60 years, helping countless families create lasting memories through their adventures in Airstreams.
Known for his deep love of Alabama, his family, and his community, Sonny's legacy of generosity and commitment to aiding others left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2024 at Elmwood Cemetery.
