Doris Hayes Mixon, age 91 of Hoover passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Albert U. Mixon and was a member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Gail M. Lowery (Robert); son, Richard L. Mixon (Linda); grandchildren: Stephanie L. Newton (Chris), Rachel M. Waller (Lee) and Melinda M. Nichols (Elliot); great granddaughter, Anna Nichols; sisters-in-law: Alleen Stickler and Barbara Hayes. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Bluff Park Elementary School Library or Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
