

EDGAR ELLIS CAMPBELL. JR. of Pinson, AL, 87 years of age and a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 23, 2022, after a long and difficult struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He retired after 43 years with United States Steel in Production Planning. He also served for 40 years with the Alabama Air National Guard during which the Berlin Crisis occurred and he was deployed to France along with two of his brothers-in-law. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1993 and received an honorary promotion to Chief Master Sergeant in 2020 in recognition of his many years of distinguished service. Many of the men he served with remained lifelong friends. A Birmingham native, he was born and raised on Stout’s Road on October 13, 1934, and attended Norwood Elementary and Phillips High School. He maintained relationships with many of his childhood friends.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 68 years, Carolyn Ellis Campbell, a son, Edgar Ellis “Skip” Campbell III (Denise), a daughter, Lisa Carol Campbell (Tim), 3 grandchildren, Adam Campbell (Cheri), Erin Campbell, and Michael Renda (Min), 4 great-children (Michael Jr., Mia, Angie, and Logan). Ellis was loved and remembered by sisters-in-law, Ann Ellis Walker and Rose Bearden Ellis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar Ellis Campbell, Sr. and Leola Beene Campbell.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 28 from 10:00 to 11:00 at RIDOUT’S Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL 35235 (ACROSS HWY 11 FROM SERRA HYUNDAI), with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East following a brief service.
An avid animal lover, he was predeceased by animal friends, Gretchen, Chloe, and Frances.
The family thanks Oasis Health Care for their service and attention during this difficult time.
The family also expresses special gratitude to Tim McMinn for his love and unwavering support for our family in both good times and bad over the decades.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, local humane societies, animal shelters, or charities of their choice.
