Edward Scott "Scotty" Long (77) passed away peacefully on 12/26/2020 in Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his wife, Kathey Reese Long. They proudly shared 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughters Reesa Brown (Chris), Delane Bickelhaupt (Jim), and Brandy Long; siblings Diane Long, Larry Long (Sissy), Cissy Long, and Lance Long (Ann); Grandchildren Scotty Long (JaLesa) and Karley Long (10); Great-grandson Jett Long (5).
He attended Lawton High School in Lawton, OK. From 1963 - 1969 he attended Auburn University where he received his BS, played football and baseball, and earned a "Triple A" baseball contract with the NY Mets.
Mr. Long was a member of First Christian Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Auburn Football and Baseball Letterman's Clubs. Before retirement, he was an Industrial Valve and Fittings salesman. He is remembered by many for his coaching days at Banks, Selma, and Jasper High Schools.
Since retiring, he began crafting beautiful leather goods, axes and knives in his "garage workshop". He loved being with his family, his country, Auburn, hunting, fishing, and watching YouTube TV videos.
Outdoor visitation (please observe safety protocols for virus) at First Christian Church, 4954 Valleydale Rd, will be held Tuesday, December 29 from 1:00-3:00. Flowers are welcome and memorials may be made to First Christian Church Birmingham.
