Eleanor May (High) Batson of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 4th, at age eighty-six. She survived her husband of sixty-eight years, her beloved John A. (Andy) Batson by three weeks. She is survived by her three loving children, Vickie Pond (Phillip), Betty Cash (Rick), and Andrew Batson (Kim), along with eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Eleanor May grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of J.C. and Eleanor Stephens High. She was a graduate of Ensley High School, class of 1951. She was a longtime member of Hillview Baptist Church in Forestdale, Alabama. Eleanor was privileged to teach the women's Sunday School class there. She loved her Lord and was grateful for all the blessings He had bestowed upon her during her long and happy life. Eleanor and John Andy were blessed to have owned and operated several retail businesses. Eleanor was not only a loving partner in marriage, but also an essential business partner for decades, helping John Andy with administration of Western Auto stores, as well as furniture and hardware stores in the Birmingham area. Eleanor later became an insurance agent for State Farm and was president of the Forestdale Optimist Club in the early 90s. A private family service will be held Sunday, Dec. 6th, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hillview Baptist Church, 800 Heflin Avenue E., Birmingham, AL 35214, in honor of Eleanor.
