

Elizabeth Ann Casmus Gadilhe, age 94, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in Birmingham. She was born in Birmingham to the late Alex Casmus and Irene Sullins Casmus. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Phillip E. Gadilhe; her son, Patrick, and three siblings, Mary Casmus, Mark Casmus, and Arletta Slaven. She is survived by three children: Michael (Mary), Jeanne Gadilhe Rudzki, and Thomas (Marilyn). She was "Mimi" to 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Betty attended St. Paul's grade school and high school through tenth grade when the new John Carroll Catholic High School opened. She was in the second graduating class of JCCHS in 1949. Her brother introduced her to the love of her life, Phillip, and they were married on April 15, 1950.
She worked as the bookkeeper for JCCHS and in the loan department at Regions Bank. She and Phil managed the concessions in the Amusement and Water Park in Panama City as well as their own Gaddy Candy Company. She was a tireless caretaker for Phil in the last years of his life. The grandchildren spent many happy hours playing in "Mimi's" house.
The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to JCCHS Guardian Angel Fund (300 Lakeshore Parkway Birmingham 35209) or St. Paul's Cathedral (2120 3rd Avenue North Birmingham 35203). Funeral Mass will be at St. Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. with visitation one hour before Mass. Burial will immediately follow Mass at Elmwood Cemetery. Father Bryan W. Jerabek will preside over the services.
