Emily Virginia Beck Hamer, age 90, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Birmingham and beloved wife of Hoyt H. Hamer, Sr. (deceased), passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from natural causes. She partnered with her husband as a restaurateur for 40 years, and was a homemaker in her later years and she was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed taking care of her family and traveling. She was predeceased by her parents: Jesse and Dora Beck; and seven sisters: Cynthia, Martha, Loretta, Dorothy, Helen, Velta and Delilah; one brother, Paul; and her husband Hoyt, Sr. Emily is survived by her three children: Vicki Yeatman (Tim), Hoyt H. Hamer, Jr. (Connie), and Karen Sutton; eight grandchildren: Brian and Kevin Coats, Kristi Hamer Butler, Jett, Joy and Jillian Gaddy, Timothy Yeatman and Kimberly Paglia; ten great grandchildren: Tyffani and Savannah Sturgill, Gabriel Coats, Madison and Ava Gaddy, Collin Sanders, Dylan Butler, John and Rocco Paglia, Edwin Yeatman, and her youngest sister, Christine Ledbetter. Visitation and reception will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211 with a Baptist Memorial Service to follow at 11:00.
