Eugene Solwold

Gene or Pop (as he was known), was born in Hawley, MN. May 7, 1931 to Bernard and Hattie (Fogel) Solwold. He was raised by "the greatest mother in the world" and his grandparents Amil and Laura Fogel. Gratefully blessed by God for 94 yrs, he was carried home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ July 24, 2025.

Gene served in the Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Japan at a refueling base for B-52s. He retired from the insurance business where he was an agent, district manager and underwriter, working for Life of Virginia, Liberty National and Horace Mann Ins. In retirement he enjoyed farming, raising cattle & chickens and growing blueberries. He was always active in church life and travelled to assist in flood recovery.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Maynard Solwold, sister Bernice Peplin, grandsons Nathan and Matthew Solwold. He is survived by his wife Mary Solwold, sister Muriel Wendt, former wife Wyomie McRae, Children: Angela Smith (Bill), Jeanne Higgins (Jeff), Candice Tillman (Scott), Philip Solwold (Cendy), Grandchildren: Neal Smith, Brooke Smith (Alex Kechagiadakis), Jenna Tomlin (Traland), Jordan Higgins (Haley), Alyssa Fendley (Brandon), Ashley Chaffins (Caleb), Joshua Tillman (Kaitlin), Ramie Solwold, Autumn Solwold, Sara Tomlin (Corey), many great-grandchildren
