Frances Jeanette Hood

Frances Jeanette Hood, beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on January 29, 1950, Frances was a lifelong learner, a quiet achiever, and someone whose gentle spirit touched every life around her.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Patrick Hood and A. Lorraine Shaffer Hood; her brother, Harry L. Hood; and her sister, Dorothy Hood McQueen. She is survived by her loving sister, J. Patti Hood, and her cherished nephew, Drew McQueen, whom held a special place in her heart.

A dedicated professional, Frances spent her career in the field of information science, serving UAB, Southern Medical, and the Veterans Affairs system with diligence, integrity, and quiet excellence. Her work reflected her love for learning, organization, and helping others find the information they needed.

Frances had a deep and lasting bond with academia. She completed her undergraduate studies at UAB, then went on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Alabama, a path that reflected her persistent curiosity and commitment to her field.

Athletic and active in her younger years, Frances played on the volleyball team at Jacksonville State and remained a quiet competitor at heart. She was also an enthusiastic Alabama football fan, proudly cheering “Roll Tide!” through every season.

Frances loved to read and she found joy and perspective in traveling to new places. Whether she was exploring the world through a novel or discovering it firsthand, Frances embraced life with a thoughtful and steady appreciation.

Above all, Frances treasured her family. She remained close to them throughout her life, offering love, support, and a steady presence that meant the world to those who knew her best.

Frances will be remembered for her kindness, intellect, and dry humor. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with those who went before her, and that her legacy of warmth and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
