Frances “Big Mama” Grace Varagona Mobarak, age 84, of Homewood, Alabama, passed away on February 6, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many. She will be remembered for cooking pasta every Sunday for lunch and her unending love for her husband and family. A longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Guild where her servant’s heart was shown.
Frances is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Mufid Z. Mobarak, her parents, Michaelangelo and Theresa Varagona and sister, Mary Grace Varagona. She is survived by her six children, Victor (Ruthie) Mobarak, Theresa Mobarak Funderburk, Rita (John) Moylan, Mike Mobarak, Michele (Jason) Goldfon, and Chris (Jennifer) Mobarak; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Sylvester (Mary Frances) Varagona, sister Martha Musso, and sister-in-law, Yesmin (Ann) Bajalia along with many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 11:15 with the funeral mass at 12:00 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Following, the family will gather for the burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Family and Friends unable to attend the service may livestream online at www.ourladyofsorrows.com . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association.
