Gary Scott Sanderson Sr.

Walter and Dorothy Sanderson. A native of Bessemer, Alabama, Gary served his country in the United States Navy, including three tours in Vietnam. He retired

with over 30 years with the Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and Reserves. Gary retired with over 30 years of service as a Birmingham Firefighter. He was currently

with Station 5 at the 117th Air Refueling Wing at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Gary was proud of his service in the United States Navy and the time that he spent with his fellow sailors. He also had a special bond with his fellow firefighters and loved serving with them in the community. He was

preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy (Kirkland) Sanderson; brother, Walter Sanderson, Jr.; and his sister, Dana McMillian. Left to cherish his memory are his adoring wife, Robin Anderson Sanderson; sons, Michael Sanderson and Gary Sanderson, II.; daughter, Cobi Sanderson; eight grandchildren; and his sister, Holly Cornelius. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017, at 11 am at Elmwood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation

will be Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 5:30-7:30 pm at Elmwood Chapel.
