It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria McIntosh Harville on April 3, 2025 at the age of 90. Gloria was born on February 24, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama to Aubrey and Ruby Galloway McIntosh, Sr.
Gloria met the love of her life and beloved husband of 62 years, Charles Harville. Gloria was known for her strong will and unwavering determination.
Along with her husband, she was a devout member of Bethel AME Church Ensley, Birmingham, Alabama.
Gloria worked for the Birmingham Board of Education as a 4th Grade Teacher at Northside Elementary School; Consultant for Teaching and Reading in Middle Grades; Elementary School Counselor; School Psychometrist; and Guidance and Counseling Administrator.
Gloria was an esteemed alumnus of Miles College. She received her M.A. in Special Education from the University of Alabama; and an M.A. and A.A. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed study at George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee.
Gloria was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, who would help anyone. She especially enjoyed traveling. Gloria lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her loving son, Cedric Harville, Sr. and Patricia; grandson, Dr. Cedric Harville, II (Brittany); great-grandsons, Cedric Harville, III, Micah Harville; great-granddaughter, Gianna Harville; sisters, Gracie M. Gerry, Gwendolyn M. Williams (Esquire Walter Williams); brother, Ronald McIntosh, Sr. (Patricia); and sister-in-law, Betty M. Harville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harville; father, Aubrey McIntosh, Sr.; mother, Ruby McIntosh; siblings, Aubrey McIntosh, Jr., Lillian Lois M. Miller, William McIntosh, Bobbi Jean M. Cunningham, and Shirley M. Williams.
She will also be missed by her Bethel AME Church family, and other relatives, friends, and co-workers who loved her dearly.
A visitation for Gloria will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave Sw, Birmingham, Alabama 35211, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Gloria will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211-2835.
