Though Gordon had no surviving immediate family members, he is survived by his cousins, Robert and Connie Bevill, and the many of us that knew him as a friend.
Gordon attended Hewett-Trussville High School, and studied at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Jacksonville State Universities.
One of Gordon’s great loves in life was music. When he served in the U.S. Army he was a Percussionist and Section leader in the Army Band from 1972- 1978. Both before and after the army, Gordon worked many years as a professional musician. He was a former Percussion Instructor at Spirit of Atlanta Drums and Bugle Corps. He performed with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra & Opera from 1979-1990. Throughout his life he played professionally with many small bands or groups, covering genres including jazz, blues, pop and rock. He even worked as an on-air DJ at WGOW talk radio in Chattanooga.
Gordon’s other great passion was photography, and he worked as a professional photographer for many years. He was as a successful freelancer in both Chattanooga and Birmingham. He was also a Photographer and AV Producer at Baptist Health System in Birmingham, AL, from 1989-1996. He also combined his passion for the camera with his lover for motorcycles as the official photographer for the local Harley Davidson group in 2004.
Gordon was extremely talented individual and expressed his creativity in his love for photography and music.
But most important of all, Gordon loved the Lord and understood what it meant to live in God’s saving grace. In faith, Gordon received Salvation through the forever-atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Gordon faithfully served in the First Baptist Church Orchestra where he combined his love for Jesus with his passion for music.
God’s speed Gordon. May you rest in peace.
