

Helen Marie Reuland was born March 16, 1939 to Ernest and Ruby Peters in Jemison, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard Reuland; children, Kevin Porter, Brian and Allison Reuland; brothers, Ernest Peters, Jr (Jean) and David Lawrence Peters (Carol). She is survived by her son, Norman Keith Porter; sister, Doris Evelyn Coker (Clovis), and sister, Elaine Peters Monroe (Neil).
Helen was an avid gardener creating beautiful landscapes around her homes. She was deeply devoted to her family, Kingwood circle of friends and the Lord. Helen was a member of Kingwood Presbyterian Church. She visited the Holy land twice and recently read the entirety of the Bible.
Helen’s hobbies included Bridge, Bonco, supper club, interior decorating, photography and traveling. She served as president of the Kingwood Garden Club, and headed up to the Christmas open house decorations. Helen was devoted to many missions in her life. In her late 70s, Helen traveled to Peru to minister in an orphanage. She was employed at U.S. Pipe, Continental Can, and Brasfield and Gorrie Construction in Birmingham. Helen was also a top runway model for Lillie Ruben, Rich’s, and Pizits.
Following her marriage to Bernie on August 2,1975, she moved to Oregon and became a full-time wife and mother of four. On October 23, 1976, Helen proudly adopted Allison and Brian Reuland. They resided in Olympia, Washington, Atlanta, Georgia and Houston, Texas. The Kingwood community in Houston was their home for over 30 years surrounded by a wide circle of friends. One year ago, she moved back to Hoover to live with her sister Elaine. Helen treated Elaine’s grandchildren Colton, Charlie (deceased) and Allison as her own.
Helen Marie Reuland was a beautiful, intelligent, fun-loving and strong woman. She was a devoted, compassionate caregiver to three of her children and her husband who suffered horrible cancer episodes. Spending many years in hospitals did not dampen her spirits or faith. She accepted their deaths as God’s plan. Her favorite Bible verse was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.
A visitation will be held at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, Saturday, September, 7, 2024 from 10 am until 11 am. A celebration of life will follow at 11 am. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
