

James Dewey Kyle was born in Birmingham on March 8, 1934 to Arthur and Elvie Kyle. While attending Howard College, Dewey served as Minister of Youth and then went on to graduate from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas with a master’s in Church Music. Dewey married his bride, Geraldine (Geri) Heath in 1953. They were married 69 ½ years and were blessed with three daughters and one son. He was pawpaw to eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Dewey served faithfully as Minister of Music in Lanett, Alabama, Owensboro, Kentucky, and Birmingham, Alabama. He served on music faculties at Ridgecrest, Glorietta, and Shocco Springs. He loved to sing and had a beautiful bass voice. He enjoyed singing in the choir after he retired. He considered it a blessing to work with children, youth, and adults throughout his ministry. He loved training and leading youth choirs on national and international tours including in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. He was a dedicated and hard-working husband, father, and minister. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and son, Jimmy. He is survived by his wife, Geri, his three daughters, Debbie (Barry), Becky (Roger), and Susan (Doug); his eight grandchildren, Russ, Luke, Matthew, Kyle, Andrew, Emily, Jessica, and Tiffany; and his four great grandchildren, Ava, Mary, Joy, and Fletcher. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and funeral service at 1:00.
